Volunteer – No one gets to be the best referee in just a snap of the finger. Starting a career by doing the voluntary works on community sports event is vital and a first step to make. Small events like that will help you sharpen your refereeing abilities and will get you to work on your weaknesses.
Study – Take the necessary communication, management, leadership, and motivation classes as much as possible. These things will help you learn the communication and leadership skills you need in handling a game.
Assessment – Assess yourself on how effective your refereeing skills. Let someone take a video of yourself when you are working. In this way you will know which areas you need to improve and to be able to see if your style is improving. Let someone who is more experience than you in refereeing or better yet, a professional referee evaluate your videos and seek for their advice on your performance
Level-up – When the time is right, work your way up to become a paid community referee. From there try to penetrate the high school and college scenarios. If you become exceptionally well on the college level, who knows some professional referees will notice you and doors will open up for you.
